Primary objective Coordinate the implementation of the destination management plans and other industry development strategies within the Northern Territory, engaging a variety of stakeholders to increase the effectiveness of tourism planning and development. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Collaboratively and proactively strengthen working relationships and networks with the tourism industry and Local Government. 2. Undertake research and prepare briefings across a range of issues impacting on the visitor economy of the region. 3. Facilitate a range of consultations for stakeholders and client groups to inform ongoing development of the destination management plans and sector strategies as required. 4. Work with the Manager Tourism Regions to increase awareness of tourism development activities to ensure a focus on relationship and stakeholder management and shared regional issues and opportunities. 5. Maintain a high level of collaboration with industry stakeholders including RTOs. 6. Ensure domestic and international marketing teams are briefed on specific development activities. 7. Implement the key outcomes of the destination management plans and other strategies as appropriate. 8. Work collaboratively across the Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade and wider government to influence positive results for all regions. Selection criteria Essential 1. Demonstrated experience in the Northern Territory tourism industry, with an understanding of its products and attractions. 2. Able to clearly articulate Northern Territory tourism environment and its competitive development position in the domestic and international tourism arena. 3. Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and work independently as well as part of a team. 4. Well-developed written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and negotiation skills. 5. Demonstrated ability to build rapport with stakeholders. 6. Practical knowledge of planning requirements, tourism trends and planning/tourism best practices. Desirable 1. An understanding of Parliamentary and government agency processes. 2. Tertiary qualification in a related field. Further information At times, this position requires travel to remote areas and work outside of standard office hours.
